Thank-you for your interest in the counselling services I provide individual psychotherapy at Amber Oak Therapy. I am an occupational therapist and registered psychotherapist, with a Masters in Counselling Psychology. Over the past 24 years, my career as an occupational therapist has afforded me the opportunity to work with individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, facing a range of physical and mental health challenges. My role as a psychotherapist began in 2020 and has fueled my passion for supporting clients pursuing mental well-being. The individuals I work with range in age from 18 years to older adulthood.
I am committed to providing collaborative and individualized care using an approach that is inclusive, neurodiversity affirming and trauma informed. I aim to address your unique needs and accommodate your pace and level of comfort. In our work together I will draw from professional experience, current knowledge in psychology, and evidence-based therapeutic modalities. My counselling style is also informed by my lived experiences navigating the health care system as a mental health care provider, caregiver, and parent. It would be my pleasure to walk with you on this journey.

My interests and clinical focus is in working with individuals experiencing a variety of challenges including but not limited to:

I integrate elements from different therapeutic schools of thought to offer personalized support to the clients I serve. Below are some of the approaches in which I have completed training.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): DBT is an extensively researched therapeutic approach that combines cognitive behaviour therapy with principles of mindfulness, acceptance and non-judgmental awareness. It focuses on balancing aspects of life that require acceptance and those which can be changed through learning and practicing new skills.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): The core principles underlying ACT help to redefine one's relationship with difficult or distressing emotions and thoughts. ACT encourages individuals to identify their key values and learn to make intentional choices guided by what matters to them instead of being controlled by their thoughts and emotions.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT): CBT is an evidence-based psychological therapy that helps people manage mental and emotional health issues by changing their thoughts and behaviors to improve their function and quality of life.
